Committee Minutes
Minutes of the Meeting held on 20 April 2010 at 9 Frosterley Close, Newton Hall, Durham
Present: D Gibson, A Adams, R Cowen, J Hogg, D Sowerbutts
1. Apologies:
R Logan
2. Minutes of last meeting
Agreed as a true record.
3. Matters arising
» The trip to Musselburgh had resulted in a small loss, partly due to more fuel being used than anticipated and partly because two persons had cancelled.
» Richard mentioned that there was no development regarding NPS. There would not be any now due to the General Election campaign.
4. Winter minibus trip
» David mentioned he had received a copy certificate of insurance from Sandy.
» David S confirmed that the returns for 2007/8 and 2008/9 had now been sent to Sandy. These had been sent previously to the Regional Office but should have been sent to Sandy.
» David G mentioned that the drop mail to DH2 area had resulted in 2 responses – which was in line with the average response for this type of mail.
5. Meetings with Durham Bird Club
Richard mentioned that this had been raised at a committee meeting of DBC as they were having difficulty arranging speakers. David S mentioned that our meetings are open to the public so in theory there is no reason why they should not also be open to members of DBC. This may however lead to notification on the DBC website and in the Lek. It was agreed that this should be mentioned at the AGM on April 27th.
6. AGM
David G announced he intended to retire as Chairman and from the Committee. Richard agreed he would be prepared to stand as chairman. David S agreed to stay as treasurer, Ray as membership secretary and Julie to organise trips and publicity. This means at present that the membership secretary post is vacant if Richard becomes Chairman.
The accounts for 2009/10 were briefly discussed. David S mentioned we had a balance of £919.79 to carry over. From this it was decided we should recommend that a donation of £250.00 be given to Regional Office for Farming and Agriculture in view of the Corn Bunting project at Bishop Middleham (which also helps many other birds such as linnet and yellowhammer).
It was also agreed to mention the Blacktoft trip on May 15th at the AGM as there were still spaces available.
7. Field Trips
» Nightjar Outing – 25 June, meeting at University at 8 pm
» Teesmouth - 7 August, meeting at University at 9 am
8. AOB
David G agreed he would arrange speakers for the 2010/11 season, but it would then be necessary to find someone else to do this.
Issues regarding our reducing membership were considered and it was decided we should put a question in the Newsletter to seek views as to the running of the Group.
9. Date of next meeting
13 July 2010 at [location withheld from website].
